Walker Filtration Introduces Revolutionary Multi-Banked Solution to Compressed Air Filtration

PUBLISHED Tuesday, May 9 2017

Walker Filtration has used their technical expertise to once again create an innovative new filter range. The PRO XF is a high efficiency, compressed air filter, featuring an innovative modular design to provide a flexible, reliable and compact compressed air filtration solution. To support the product launch Walker Filtration has also launched an online product space:, dedicated to the business’ new, market-leading product launches.

Designed for high flow applications and operating pressures of up to 16 barg, PRO XF has revolutionised the fabricated flanged market – providing a reliable and flexible modular design that is ideal for use in multi compressor installations and skid based packages.

By expanding the range to include threaded variants, PRO XF delivers a comprehensive product range with flow rates from 700 to 3000 scfm (1189 to 5097 Nm³/hr). Available in 2”, 2 ½”, 3” BSPP and NPT threaded, and DN80 (3”) and DN100 (4”) flanged housings, the PRO XF range is suitable for installation worldwide.

Through innovative design and lean manufacturing, Walker Filtration has been able to significantly reduce lead time when compared to conventional fabricated vessels, holding all components in stock.

PRO XF’s unique modular construction is available as individual threaded or flanged ‘Complete Filters’ which, by integrating with PRO XF ‘Filter Modules’, can be multi-banked to create a space efficient filtration solution. The PRO XF design is up to 65% lighter and 45% smaller when compared to comparative fabricated models. With a 30% cost saving on each Filter Module, when multi-banking with an equivalent sized complete filter, this revolutionary design not only saves on space and service time, but money too.

Featuring five filtration grades, from 25 micron to 0.01 micron, for particulate, vapour and coalescing filters – PRO XF filter elements are manufactured using quality materials to provide optimal performance, minimal pressure drop and reduced whole life costs. The new PRO XF range will meet and exceed the highest standards of air purity when tested in accordance with ISO 8573-1:2010 air quality classes to provide a safe and reliable compressed air filtration solution.

The range also includes Water Separators, removing 99% of bulk liquid in line with ISO standard 8573-9. The centrifugal module has been custom designed to feature a Vortex Arrestor to stop re-entrainment and eliminate points of low efficiency. This ensures minimal operating pressure loss and maintains excellent liquid removal, even at low velocities. No replacement components are required for the PRO XF Water Separator, making it a viable, cost effective solution to removing bulk water from compressed air.

PRO XF delivers significant reduction in maintenance and installation time, with savings of up to 80% for the flanged product when compared with traditional filter vessels. PRO XF incorporates a unique top loading screw cap design, and a new ‘Easy Grip’ filter element, to provide improved accessibility to the filter element and quick and clean element change-out. Combined with a new externally accessible drain which eliminates the need to gain access to the internal of the filter bowl to remove the drain - servicing has never been easier.

Lianne Walker, MBE (MBA) Group Managing Director said “We are very excited to bring a revolutionary change to the design of our air filter range. By incorporating engineering excellence and innovative design, Walker Filtration have delivered a world-class, modular design that is easy to install and most importantly is available in stock.  PRO XF provides improved operating efficiencies by reducing service time and improving ease of installation, which is why our clients and customers have put their trust in our product for over 30 years.”

Meet Our Graduates – April 2017

PUBLISHED Thursday, April 27 2017

In December 2016, as part of their Graduate Development Scheme, Walker Filtration welcomed three new Graduates to the team.   As part of the scheme, Graduates rotate through the company completing placements within each department to grow and develop their skills and build their career within the business.

The training and development offered on the Graduate Scheme is bespoke to the individual, with longer projects focusing on the individual’s area of expertise, and shorter placements in a variety of other departments that allow the graduate to widen their knowledge and gain an understanding of how all aspects of the business function.

Read about one such graduate, Hang U Lie, who has just completed her first placement at Walker Filtration, working in the Supply Chain Department.

What did you study before you joined WFL?

I studied for both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree at Newcastle University. For my Undergraduate Degree, I studied Chemical Engineering and then pursued my Master’s Degree in Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

What was it that attracted you to WFL?

The Graduate Scheme advertised the opportunity to learn about the business as a whole, and spend time in different departments – allowing me to gain knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the business. This attracted me to the company as a rotational scheme such as this would allow me to work alongside those with skills and expertise in a wide variety of areas of the business, and provide me with the opportunity to be involved with a diverse range of projects across the company. I feel Walker Filtration’s ambitious plans for future growth and company development align with my career objectives, giving me the opportunity to grow and further develop my own professional expertise.

What have you been working on for the past three months?

For the past three months I have been working within Supply Chain Management for my first placement within the business. As well as learning about supply chain strategies and developing an understanding of how this is aligned with the goals of the business, the project gave me the opportunity to work alongside a cross-functional team, and develop relationships with a number of our suppliers.

What have been the main challenges?

The company is highly customer-focused and innovation led.We are always striving to meet and exceed customer needs , hence Walker Filtration can be very fast paced - which has been challenging to adapt to. However, the sense of achievement when overcoming these challenges, and meeting a customer’s requirements is very fulfilling and rewarding.

What are you looking forward to on the Graduate Scheme?

I am really excited about having the opportunity to work within various departments, and take on projects that contribute to the wider organisational goals of the company. I am also really excited about the endless opportunities for development that Walker Filtration offers us on the Graduate Scheme.

What about the training and development?

The scope for training and development is vast. As well as working with and being trained by individual members within the department, I have also had the opportunity to go on supplier visits, coordinate a project integral to a new product launch, and participate in training on Microsoft Projects – a software package I previously hadn’t used.

What about the culture?

As a family-run business, Walker Filtration is a workplace where there is a strong sense of community within the business, everyone works together effectively and all members of staff have shown me a lot of support during this early stage in my career.

Where do you see yourself in two years, after finishing the graduate development scheme?

Upon completion of the graduate scheme, I see myself working as a Project Engineer working upon a wide range of projects that would enable me to use my technical expertise, and take part in the growth and development of the company. I also hope there will be opportunities for me in the future to develop my managerial skills and become a leader within the company.
